Does teen period swimwear work?

Love Luna’s Teen Period Swimwear is designed to absorb light to medium period flow while swimming.

Do you wear a tampon with period swimwear

Our Teen Period Swimwear can be worn on its own or paired with a menstrual cup or tampon for added period protection.

How period swimwear works

Period Swimwear is specially designed to absorb your period whilst in water. The swimwears super smart technology works to absorb your flow, whilst also pushing external water away from your body to prevent leaking.

What’s the difference between our teen period swimwear and teen period underwear

Both offer period absorbency, but our Teen Period Swimwear is made from fast drying, water repellent fabric for swimming, while our Teen Period Briefs are designed for everyday wear, crafted from soft, breathable fabrics like cotton.

Teen Period Swimwear

You don’t have to cancel a beach day just because you got your period.

Teen period swimwear keeps you feeling confident in the water, whether you’re swimming, surfing, playing water sports, or just having fun. It’s cute and discreet, with flow absorbency technology built into every pair to stop leaks.

Swim all cycle long with Love Luna.

What’s the best period swimwear for teens?

Teens no longer have to miss out or stress about learning how to use a tampon.

Period swimwear helps teens feel comfy and confident in and out of the water. The collection by Love Luna has been crafted to look just like regular swimwear, so teens don’t have to sacrifice style — or their favourite sport. From one-piece swimsuits to boyleg styles and bikini briefs, all products come with a hidden lining that absorbs blood all day long.

Period swimwear: Why girls Love Luna

Four layers of leak lock protection in our teen period swimwear work together, so you can dive right in when your period arrives. All products are crafted with a bacteria barrier, absorbent layer, waterproof layer, and an outer layer that minimises odour. You get the same four clever layers of protection as our period briefs, with a special water-repellent fabric.

Here are some other ways we get teens in Australia to the beach and back:

  • PFAS-free swimwear: That means you can swim on your period, without the chemicals often found in menstrual pads and tampons.
  • They last (almost) forever: Simply wear, wash and reuse. Better for the environment and lighter on your wallet.
  • Discreet: Dependable absorbency without the bulk.
  • All-day protection: Wear them and forget about them.
  • Cute & comfy: On-trend designs and a selection of colourways.
  • No learning curve: Just pull it on like regular swimwear and head to your swimming lesson, to the beach, or to hang out with friends.

Can you swim on your period, really?

Teens and tweens no longer have to sit out their favourite activities when they get their period. Our period-proof swimwear absorbs 2-3 tampons’ worth of flow, so you can keep even unpredictable periods under control.

The best period swimwear offers a snug fit. Our collection is specifically designed for growing bodies, for maximum comfort and to keep your swimwear (and your flow!) in place.

It’s cute enough to wear on its own, but you could also wear it under regular swimwear or wetsuits if you prefer. Love the water, all month, with Love Luna.

Find your flow

Our bikini-style and one-piece period swimwear for teens is available in different colours, sizes, designs and absorbency levels. With free shipping on orders over $100 in Australia.

Questions about teen period swimwear?

How does period swimwear work in water?

Teen period swimwear is a complete tampon replacement.

There’s period-proofing technology in the gusset, which is made of four layers. Each layer has a particular job to do. Together, they absorb blood and make sure it doesn’t leak out, while feeling soft and comfortable on the skin.

You can wear period swimwear in the pool or the sea. Or simply for lounging around.

For more about how our swimwear works, check out this guide.

Does absorbency stop working if you’re going in and out of the water?

No, you can jump in and out of the water as many times as you like. The absorbency will continue to work as it should.

There’s a myth that periods stop in the water. What actually happens is that water pressure temporarily stops blood from escaping. Although it might seem like your period stops in the water, the flow returns to normal as soon as you step out.

With Love Luna’s period swimwear, teens can confidently go in and out of the water, without worrying about drips.

I’m training to be a swimmer. Can I wear period underwear?

Any girl who’s in the water most days of the week might worry about their period. We’re often asked if you can keep training in the water on your heavier flow days.

People with a light or medium flow can wear the same period swimwear all day. If you’re worried about a heavier flow, try changing your swimwear halfway through your training session. You could always give reusable menstrual cups a go for extra peace of mind.

Can You Wear Period Swimwear on Heavy Days?

When your period swimwear is the right fit (snug and comfy!) and offers the right absorbency for your flow, you’re unlikely to experience stains or trails of blood in the water. The layers within the swimsuit get to work, absorbing blood and making sure nothing leaks out.

Get to know your flow to figure out what level of absorbency you need.
